Litter #3 - That's All Folks

Little Miss found a new home and has a four year old big brother, a golden retriever. Her name is Sadie, which I think fits her perfectly! This is the last picture I snapped of the sweet girl.
We are back to a family of four again and Kora will be going in to be fixed soon ... so, that's it for our puppy fun! We look forward to receiving pictures from our puppy owners and will continue to update the blog as we get them.
.
One final confession to the owners of the puppies that we kept a little longer than the pick up date ... of course we worked on crate training and house breaking, but we also couldn't help but spoil them a little at times!

Litter #3 - I'm Still Available

All of my brothers and sisters went to their new homes yesterday, and I'm having fun with my mom and dad, but I wish I could find a new home like my litter mates. If you know anyone who might like to give me a home, please have them contact my human mom and dad (kacey76@hotmail.com). I am learning real fast to go potty outside and I stayed in my crate for the first time last night and didn't even have one accident. I'm really sweet and cuddly and of course I like to play a lot 'cause I'm an eight week old puppy. My human mom and dad are starting to get really attached to me, so I probably need to find a new home soon or they will be really sad when I leave!

Litter #3 - A Dirty Mess

Playtime outside is a daily routine, but the heat makes it nearly unbearable. The pups know that if they dig a couple of top layers off the dirt they will discover a cool spot. They seem perfectly content covered from head to toe in dirt.

Litter #3 - 7 Weeks

Get your wide open spaces ready ... these pups are off an running in a split second now! They love to play outside and are resourceful enough to find the shade spots pretty quickly after a couple of races and tackles with their siblings.

They are doing fantastic with potty training! It is rare to find an accident anywhere other than the potty room in their condo. Every morning they are set free to roam loose in our living and dining room area and the past couple of days they have realized the purpose for the paper and have all begun to potty there.

This litter is by far the most willing the cuddle, which we are taking full advantage of. They are all so sweet and I know next Saturday is going to be a day of mourning in our house!!!

Litter #3 - Papa Jake

Jake is such a terrific dad to the pups. At 90 pounds he could certainly do some harm if he wanted, but he instinctively knows that he needs to be gentle with them ... even if they are trying to nurse him with their razor sharp puppy teeth.

Litter #3 - 6 Weeks

There is always one in each litter who falls alseep in the food bowl. This time it was garnet and he wins the prize for literally sleeping in it!

The pups had their first round of vaccinations and all got a good bill of health from the vet. The energy level is through the roof now, and we are constantly trying to find new ways to keep them entertained. This big box was a hit, but only lasted about two days.

Litter #3 - 4 Weeks

The pups are four weeks old today. They are running, playing, barking and slowly learning the importance of the potty room.
.
This past week they started eating real, big-dog food and at first, they weren't all quite sure what to do with this round bowl of mush. Feeding time is now a frenzy, although they still don't quite understand the water bowl. They dip their nose in, pull it out snorting and snuffing and then walk away, unhappy that they got water up their noses.

Yesterday we piled the pups into a laundry basket and headed to the vet where they always draw a crowd of oohs and aahs.

Each pup got a syringe full of banana tasting de-worming medicine, their second dose.

Blue just hung out, waiting patiently for his turn.

Litter #3 - 2 Weeks

The pups will be two weeks old tomorrow and had their first vet visit today. The de-worming medicine worked wonders on this litter, they were out like a light and I finally got to take some pictures!

Here are our yellow ladies

Some of them are starting to open their eyes a bit and all of them are wobbling and stumbling around. They are slowly transitioning from their squeeking and finding their real voices. Every once in a while we'll hear a high pitched "WOOOOF." These two weeks have been pretty calm, but we expect the action to start picking up real soon!!!

Goodbye Little Champ

We had a rough first couple of days with one of our little pups, a black male who we named Champ. We noticed early on that he was not gaining weight or eating well. With instruction from our vet, we began hand feeding him every hour when he wouldn't nurse on Kora. We also gave saline injections every four hours to keep up his hydration. As hard as we tried to keep him going, he was just too weak to fight and passed on day three. It was a very sad night for us, but we have now turned our focus on other seven little ones who are thriving.
Here is a picture of little Champ with his sisters

Check out this picture ... it doesn't get any cuter than that!!!

Litter #3 - Third and Final Litter

This is Kora and Jake's third and final litter. Kora started whelping 11:40 this morning and finished strong with puppy number eight at 3:24pm. We ended up with a perfect mix again this time: four yellow and four black, two of each sex. Mama, exhausted from a very hard day's work, and her little pups are asleep right now. The rest of us cannot fairly claim 'exhaustion' as Kora did all the work, but we are a little worn out from the events of today.
Here is the happy family ...
