Toys We Recommend

Stuffed animals and cheap plastic toys were short lived with our two labs. We learned quick that it was smart to shell out a few extra bucks for the higher quality, tough toys. And by tough, I mean TOUGH!!! Here are three of our favorites:

All Kong products are great! We recommend the Extreme Kong, King size. We never purchased any of the Kong filler treats, but rather stuffed them with our own goodies and they even have recipes on the Kong website. We feed our dogs their meals in Kong on a fairly regular basis which keeps them from inhaling their food, keeps their minds active and keeps them entertained for a bit.

Buster Cube is another food dispenser, but is a little more challenging for the pups. It is fun to watch them try and figure out that if they kick this blue, plastic cube around enough it releases treats.

Our final favorite and non destructible product we use is a 10 inch bleached, steralized hollow bone. We fill the ends with peanut butter, throw it in the freezer and in an hour the pups can't wait to lick away their chilled treat.

We purchase most of our products from Jeffers Pet, an Alabama based company. We order the products online and within 48 hours (usually 24 hours) we have our goodies on our front porch.

See "Our Recommendations" websites on the right.

What Color Puppies?

I do not claim to be a DNA expert, but this is what we have been told and from what I have researched it seems valid. Obviously we have the chance of yellow and chocolate pups, however we think there could possibly be black ones in the litter as well. Here is how we understand it: Yellow labs have either pink/brown noses and light color eyes, which DO NOT carry the black gene or they have black noses and eyes, which DO carry the black gene. Kora falls into the second category, so we are hoping for a swirl of color in her litter. Of course true bred labs are solid in color, so when I say “swirl” I do not mean that we expect multi colored puppies. Only time will tell if our theory is correct.

The Sire

Jake, a 90 pound chocolate lab is the sire, or proud papa, of the litter. He is AKC registered (SR 41048506) and was born on St Patrick's Day (March 17, 2007). He has such a sweet spirit and laid back personality and neither his weight nor size detours his desire to plop down in your lap to cuddle.

The Dam

Kora is the Dam, or mother of the litter. She is an AKC registered (SR36087007) yellow lab and weighs 60 pounds. Born on June 21, 2006, she is three years old and is a sweet tempered, easily excitable pup. She is a natural born swimmer and loves to fetch!
